Telangana Targets 26,000 MW Solar Capacity by 2035, Says Bhatti Vikramarka

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday announced that the state government aims to transform Telangana into a global clean energy manufacturing hub. He made the announcement after inaugurating the two-day India Energy Summit & Expo 2026 in Hyderabad.
Speaking at the event, Vikramarka stated that the state has designed comprehensive plans to meet rapidly growing power demand while ensuring environmental sustainability. As part of this roadmap, the state government aims to expand its solar power capacity to 20,000 MW by 2030 and exceed 26,000 MW by 2035.
Highlighting the critical role of energy storage in renewable energy integration, the Deputy Chief Minister said Telangana plans to achieve 3,800 MW of storage capacity by 2030 and 8,000 MW by 2035 through a combination of battery energy storage and pumped storage projects. He also shared targets to produce 400,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 and set up 12,000 EV charging stations across the state by 2035.
Vikramarka noted that Hyderabad's strengths in information technology and artificial intelligence are being leveraged to convert the state's future power grid into a digital network. To support an AI data center in 'Bharat Future City', which is being developed on Hyderabad's outskirts, the government is planning a dedicated 100 MW renewable energy plant.
To encourage industrial growth in the green sector, the state will offer incentives to companies setting up manufacturing units for solar, wind, and battery components. These benefits include capital support, SGST reimbursement, and electricity duty exemptions, alongside fast-track clearances through the TG-iPASS single-window system. Emphasising that energy transformation requires strong public-private collaboration, Vikramarka called on industry leaders to partner with the state government in achieving these goals.
