Telangana Statehood Activists Demand Plots and Pensions at Hyderabad Meeting

More than 1,200 Telangana statehood activists gathered at the Amaraveerula Smaraka Deepam in Hyderabad on Friday to demand statutory status for the state’s agitators’ recognition committee. The activists, who traveled from the erstwhile Warangal, Khammam, and Nalgonda districts, raised a series of welfare demands during a consultation meeting held with the committee.

In addition to statutory recognition for the panel, the activists demanded 250-square-yard housing plots and monthly pensions for eligible families. They also called for reservations in jobs and education for their children, free healthcare through dedicated health cards, and free travel services in Road Transport Corporation (RTC) buses. Furthermore, the participants emphasized the need for special benefits tailored specifically for women activists.

During the interaction, the activists urged the recognition committee to examine the existing laws, policies, and welfare measures implemented by other states such as Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh for their respective statehood agitators. They submitted written representations to the panel, requesting that Telangana adopt similar or superior provisions to support local agitators.

To ensure broader participation, the attendees also requested that the committee hold future consultation meetings at the district level. They noted that elderly activists residing in remote areas face significant challenges traveling all the way to Hyderabad to voice their concerns.
