Telangana Schools to Remain Open on July 11 to Compensate for Lost Academic Days

HYDERABAD — The Telangana School Education department has officially declared July 11, 2026, as a working day for all schools across the state, cancelling the scheduled second Saturday holiday. The decision will affect schools, teachers, and students throughout Hyderabad and the rest of Telangana, who will now have to attend classes on what would have typically been a holiday.

The cancellation of the holiday was implemented to compensate for the academic time lost at the very beginning of the school year. According to the official schedule for the 2026-27 academic year, schools across the state of Telangana were originally slated to reopen on June 12, 2026, following the conclusion of the summer vacation.

However, the School Education department received representations from various stakeholders requesting a delay in the school reopening. In response to these representations, the department made the decision to defer the reopening date from June 12 to June 15, 2026.

This postponement was practical because June 13, 2026, was a second Saturday and June 14, 2026, was a Sunday. By deferring the start date to June 15, the department effectively extended the summer vacation by a few days.

While the deferment provided extra vacation time, it also resulted in a reduction of the total number of instructional days required for the academic year. To address this shortfall and ensure that all schools strictly adhere to the prescribed instructional days under the 2026-27 academic calendar, the department decided to utilize the upcoming second Saturday.

With the holiday officially dropped, the School Education department has instructed all schools under its purview to remain open on July 11, 2026. Students and staff members are expected to attend their schools as usual, as there will be no closed holiday on this day.
