Telangana Releases 91 Prisoners and Provides Jobs on Formation Day

The Telangana state government released 91 prisoners, including six women, from various prisons in Hyderabad on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. The release was ordered after the government granted them remission on the occasion of Telangana Formation Day, initiating a rehabilitation program to help them transition back into mainstream society.

Among those released, 38 individuals have been provided immediate employment opportunities at various fuel retail outlets run by the Telangana Prisons Department. Officials stated that these appointments are specifically designed to provide immediate livelihood support, helping the former prisoners reintegrate smoothly.

According to Dr. Soumya Mishra, the Director General of Prisons & Correctional Services in Telangana, the remaining 53 individuals expressed a strong desire to pursue independent paths. These individuals plan to engage in agriculture, self-employment, family businesses, and other independent occupations to rebuild their lives through constructive and lawful means.

As part of the rehabilitation efforts, four of the released women were also provided with sewing machines. This assistance was distributed under the Self-Employment Assistance Scheme, which is funded directly through the Prison Development Fund.

Dr. Mishra highlighted the significance of the release, stating that the occasion marked the beginning of a new phase of life for the individuals, founded on responsibility, dignity, and hope. She emphasized that the state's correctional system strongly believes in the transformative potential of every individual.

Furthermore, Dr. Mishra noted that the primary objective of imprisonment is not solely to enforce lawful punishment but also to facilitate reformation and positive change. She urged the newly released individuals to make the best use of the second chance provided to them, encouraging them to lead law-abiding lives and become productive members of society.
