Telangana Prisons Department Offers 'Feel The Jail' Experience at Chanchalguda

HYDERABAD — The Telangana Prisons & Correctional Services is offering the public a supervised experience of prison life at the Chanchalguda Prison Complex under its 'Feel The Jail' initiative.

Available until September 30, the programme allows participants aged 18 and above to spend between four and 24 hours following a structured inmate routine. The daily schedule begins at 6 am and requires visitors to surrender their mobile phones, wear prison-issued uniforms, use jail-standard plates and glasses, and eat meals prepared for the prison population.

The initiative features different accommodation tiers across multiple barracks. Barrack 1 is reserved exclusively for women, providing sarees as uniforms and separate closed washrooms. Barrack 2 accommodates individuals or groups of three or more, while Barrack 3 provides fans and washrooms for overnight stays. For a more intense experience, Barrack 4 features high security with enhanced supervision, and Barrack 5 offers a controlled dark-cell environment.

Throughout their stay, participants take part in physical training, yoga, meditation, parades, work assignments, and vocational activities such as agriculture, tailoring, and cleaning. They are also introduced to correctional procedures, prison rules, and rehabilitation practices under the supervision of jail staff.

The pricing is structured based on the duration of the visit. A four-hour stay costs Rs 500, an eight-hour visit is priced at Rs 750, a 12-hour stay costs Rs 1,000, and a full 24-hour experience is available for Rs 1,500. Bookings can be made directly through the department's official website.
