Telangana Polytechnic JAC Opposes Merger with Young India Skills University

In Hyderabad, the Telangana Polytechnic Joint Action Committee (TP-JAC) met with a State government-constituted high-level committee on Saturday to formally oppose the proposed merger of polytechnic colleges with the Young India Skills University (YISU) under the Shakti department.

During the meeting, the TP-JAC office-bearers demanded the withdrawal of GO MS No. 97 and affirmed that their peaceful protests would continue until the order is rescinded. The representatives maintained that government polytechnics must continue operating under the Technical Education department within the established academic and administrative framework.

The high-level committee was led by K. Keshava Rao, Advisor to Government (Public Affairs). TP-JAC chairman M. Nagaraju, convener V. Suresh, and secretary-general B. Sravan Kumar submitted a report explaining their opposition to placing the Technical Education department, the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET), and polytechnic colleges under YISU, an institution established under the public-private partnership mode.

The association emphasized that SBTET is a statutory body established under education law in accordance with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) framework. They requested that the board retain its existing responsibilities over academic affairs, the conduct of examinations, and the issuance of diploma certificates.

Nagaraju noted that polytechnics must remain under the Education department to maintain academic quality, regulation, continuity, and the comprehensive development of students. Following the discussions, Rao assured the delegation that no further steps would be taken without prior consultation with polytechnic staff.
