Telangana Police to Audit and Redeploy 93,000 Personnel to Tackle Emerging Crimes

Telangana Police has initiated a department-wide manpower audit to redistribute its sanctioned strength of approximately 93,000 personnel, shifting resources toward rising threats such as cybercrime, narcotics, and food adulteration.

The restructuring focuses on assessing staffing needs across every unit, extending down to individual police stations, constables, and Home Guards, to prepare the department for the next decade without placing an additional financial burden on the state government.

With Left-Wing Extremism curtailed across Telangana, the force is rationalising specialised units like Greyhounds and OCTOPUS while maintaining operational readiness. Personnel with academic and technical backgrounds in chemistry, pharmacy, biology, and computer engineering are being identified and transferred to specialised wings handling narcotics and digital offences.

As part of its technological upgrades, the department is developing T-SPARK, an initiative focused on smart policing through artificial intelligence-based research and knowledge. The system aims to automate core operations, including call handling, transcription, and translation for the Dial 112 emergency response network, alongside integration into the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS).

Social media monitoring has also been made compulsory across all commissionerates and district formations. Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police have been instructed to maintain active digital monitoring teams to identify disinformation and track viral campaigns.

Alongside digital advancements, the department is reinforcing foundational policing practices, including day and night patrolling, police station visits, and physical fingerprint verification to curb organised crime networks and track interstate offenders in urban areas including Hyderabad.
