Telangana Orders Private Schools to Allow Aadhaar Operators on Campus

The Telangana school education department has directed private schools and intermediate colleges in Hyderabad to allow Aadhaar operators onto their campuses to conduct mandatory biometric updates for students. The instruction was issued recently after department officials found that several private institutions were not permitting the teams to complete the updates for eligible students.
The directive followed a review meeting chaired by the director of school education and state project director of Samagra Shiksha. The meeting, held with officials from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), assessed the progress of the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) programme for school-going children and discussed steps to complete the work across the state.
According to the education department, the biometric update is essential for maintaining valid Aadhaar records of students. It is also required to facilitate various student-related services. The department has instructed all educational institutions—including government, local body, aided, and private schools, as well as intermediate colleges—to extend full cooperation, provide space, and coordinate with the deputed Aadhaar operators.
To coordinate the rollout, the department held a video conference with District Educational Officers (DEOs) and field-level officials. DEOs were directed to work in coordination with the UIDAI and Aadhaar teams. They must also share the visit schedules of the Aadhaar operators with the schools well in advance of their arrival.
District officers have also been instructed to hold meetings with private schools and intermediate institutions to explain the importance of the update programme.
The department emphasized that the MBU programme is a time-bound and important activity that must be completed without causing any disruption to regular academic activities or classes. DEOs have been tasked with regularly monitoring the progress of the biometric updates and submitting reports to the department.
