Telangana names M. Swetha first female Warangal police chief in major IPS reshuffle

On Monday, the Telangana state government executed a major police reshuffle, appointing M. Swetha as the first female police commissioner of Warangal and transferring 23 non-cadre SPs and additional SPs across key areas including Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Golconda. The administrative move also entrusted several senior IPS officers with additional dual charges to fill vacant Deputy Inspector General (DIG) posts across multiple zones.

M. Swetha, who previously served as the first woman Superintendent of Police (SP) of Siddipet district, will also hold the additional charge of DIG for Zone-IV (Bhadradri). She recently coordinated teams deployed near the Nepal border and managed communications during the investigation into the murder of IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Ray’s wife in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Outgoing Warangal Police Commissioner Sunpreet Singh has been transferred and posted as the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) for Cyberabad. In addition to this role, Singh will take on the additional charge of DIG for Zone-III (Rajanna Sircilla). Meanwhile, D. Joel Davis, the Hyderabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), was given the additional charge of DIG for Zone-V (Yadadri).

Under the new orders, Ramagundam Police Commissioner Ambar Kishor Jha will hold additional charge as DIG for Zone-I (Kaleshwaram). R. Bhaskaran has been assigned to Zone-II (Basara), and S.M. Vijay Kumar has been given additional charge as the Hyderabad North Zone Joint Commissioner (Law and Order).

In a separate order, the state government transferred and posted 23 non-cadre SPs and additional SPs. Among the prominent postings, Raghavender Reddy was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Golconda in Hyderabad. Reddy, who is Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s brother’s son-in-law, has previously served in the Greyhounds, Mulugu, and the Telangana Police Academy, playing an active role in anti-Maoist operations.

Other key postings include Ch. Sindhu Sarma as SP of the CI Cell, Intelligence, with additional charge as SP of the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB). Y. Sai Sekhar has been posted as SP of the Railway Police, while Chennuri Rupesh and Ch. Praveen Kumar were appointed as SPs in the Crime Investigation Department (CID). Additionally, R. Venkateshwarlu was posted as DCP of the CAR Headquarters, and Rajesh Meena took charge as Additional SP (Administration) in Vikarabad.
