Telangana MPs Utilise Only 23% of MPLADS Funds, Ranking 24th in India

HYDERABAD — Telangana ranks 24th among 28 states in the utilisation of Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds, recording an average spending rate of just 23% compared to the national average of 75%.

According to data from the independent public-interest data dashboard 'Empowered Indian', the Centre allocated Rs 394 crore to Telangana's 23 parliamentarians, comprising 17 Lok Sabha and six Rajya Sabha members. However, only Rs 94 crore has been spent and 2,347 works completed, with six lawmakers spending less than 10% of their allotted funds.

Among all MPs in the state, Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind recorded the highest utilisation at 56% of the Rs 28 crore allocated to him over the past two years. Mahabubabad MP Balaram Naik spent 49%, while BRS Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra utilised 48%.

In contrast, Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender, who received the highest allocation of Rs 32 crore, spent Rs 3.47 crore, or roughly 11%. Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi recorded a 7.6% utilisation rate, spending Rs 1.11 crore out of Rs 14.70 crore. Congress MP Renuka Chowdary and BRS MP B Partha Saradhi Reddy registered 2.08% and 2.43% utilisation, respectively. Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, whose term began recently, recorded zero expenditure.

Data for Union ministers from the state showed Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar spending Rs 6.50 crore of Rs 17.27 crore (38%), while Union Minister G Kishan Reddy recorded spending of Rs 47.50 lakh of Rs 14.70 crore (3.23%).

Offices of both ministers attributed the low figures on the portal to administrative delays in updating data. A representative from Kishan Reddy's office stated that works worth Rs 10 crore had been recommended and Rs 8.90 crore worth had been completed, but the Hyderabad district collectorate had likely not updated the portal.

Lawmakers have noted that while recommendation letters for various civic and infrastructure works were submitted, district collectors have delayed administrative sanctions, and executing bodies such as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and rural irrigation corporations have left projects pending.
