Telangana Monsoon Reaches 406.5 mm With 6 Percent Overall Deficit

Telangana recorded a cumulative rainfall of 406.5 mm from June 1 to Monday, August 10, against the normal benchmark of 430.3 mm. This places the state at a 6 per cent deficit, keeping overall precipitation within the normal rainfall category, according to monsoon data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS). Within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area and surrounding urban regions, cumulative rainfall reached 302.2 mm compared to the normal benchmark average of 338.1 mm, representing an 11 per cent deficit.

The TGDPS data outlines rainfall performance across all 33 districts in Telangana as the southwest monsoon progresses through August. At present, 19 districts are classified within the normal rainfall category. Two districts, specifically Kamareddy and Medak, have received excess rainfall since the start of the season.

Conversely, 12 districts in the state are currently experiencing rainfall deficits ranging between 20 per cent and 59 per cent. Districts falling into this deficit category include Hanumakonda, Warangal, and Jangaon.

Figures for the districts adjoining the Greater Hyderabad urban region show varied performance. Medchal-Malkajgiri district recorded 234.7 mm of rainfall compared to its normal average of 331 mm, placing it at a 39 per cent deficit.

Barring Medchal-Malkajgiri, the other surrounding districts in the region—including Rangareddy, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad—remain in the normal rainfall category based on the cumulative data released by the TSDPS.
