Telangana Invites Bids to Hire General Consultant for 63-km Hyderabad Metro Phase 2

HYDERABAD — The Telangana government has initiated the process to appoint a General Consultant to fast-track the execution of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2, Package-1, which covers a total distance of 63 km across four key corridors including routes through Raidurg, Kokapet Neopolis, MGBS, and Chandrayangutta.

Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) has issued a Request for Proposal (RfP) seeking qualified consultants to supervise and manage the overall implementation of the project, which is targeted for completion within four years.

Package-1 of Phase-2 comprises four distinct corridors: Corridor-4 connecting Nagole to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Corridor-5 running from Raidurg to Kokapet Neopolis, Corridor-6 linking MGBS to Chandrayangutta, and Corridor-8 extending from LB Nagar to Hayathnagar.

The MGBS to Chandrayangutta corridor was originally tendered in May this year. However, that tender was cancelled after it attracted only a single bid, leading authorities to bundle the stretch into the current Phase-2 Package-1.

The project is planned as a 50:50 joint venture between the Telangana state government and the Union government. Under this structure, both governments will provide 20 percent funding each, while the remaining 60 percent will be secured through external debt. A pre-bid meeting for prospective consultants has been scheduled for August 19.

According to the mandate, the appointed General Consultant will review the Detailed Project Report (DPR), including rolling stock specifications, and ensure the project adheres to the approved timelines while meeting standards for safety, economy, energy conservation, and environmental protection. The consultant will also prepare tender designs, assist in bid evaluations and contract awards, and oversee civil construction, system installation, phased commissioning, and final safety approvals.
