Telangana High Court Quashes Sexual Assault Case Against Ex-MLA Rega Kantha Rao

The Telangana High Court on Wednesday quashed a sexual assault case registered at the Punjagutta police station against former BRS MLA Rega Kantha Rao.
Justice BR Madhusudhan Rao passed the quash order in favour of the former legislator, who previously represented the Pinapaka assembly constituency in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Following the court's decision, Kantha Rao withdrew his anticipatory bail petition that was pending before the High Court.
The criminal case was registered by the Punjagutta police in July following a complaint lodged by a 22-year-old woman. The complainant alleged that the former legislator had duped her on the false promise of marriage and sexually assaulted her.
According to the woman's complaint, Kantha Rao had sexually assaulted her multiple times since 2022, when she was 22 years old, on the pretext of offering her employment opportunities.
The complainant further alleged that Kantha Rao had taken Rs 5 lakh from her after assuring her of high financial returns through a real estate investment.
