Telangana Health Department Issues Advisory as Week-Long Rainfall Hits State

The Telangana Health department has issued a general health advisory to citizens across the state following a week-long rainfall forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad, warning of a potential rise in seasonal illnesses.

In the advisory issued on Sunday, the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare noted that IMD Hyderabad has predicted light to moderate rainfall across Telangana over the next seven days, alongside heavy rainfall alerts for several districts during the next three days. Health officials stated that lower temperatures combined with higher humidity levels under these weather conditions could trigger an increase in seasonal diseases.

To curb the spread of vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, and chikungunya, the department urged residents to take preventive measures. Citizens were advised to use mosquito nets, window screens, and repellents, while ensuring drains are properly maintained to stop water stagnation. Households were also asked to cover septic tanks with mesh to prevent mosquito breeding and observe 'Friday-Dry Day' every week to eliminate stagnant water sources around residential areas.

The health department recommended that anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms—including fever with cough, headache, sore throat, and body aches—visit the nearest government health facility promptly. In the event of a medical emergency, residents were advised to contact the 108 ambulance service.

To handle potential surges in patient intake, the government has arranged special beds, intravenous fluids, and essential medicines across public healthcare facilities. In addition, necessary medicines and oral rehydration solution (ORS) sachets have been distributed to Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), and Anganwadi workers to address healthcare needs at the ground level.
