Telangana HC Orders Meta, X, Google to Remove Content on Welfare Schemes

The Telangana High Court in Hyderabad on Wednesday directed the Telangana Director General of Police and major social media platforms Meta, X (formerly Twitter), and Google LLC to remove content posted by a specific social media handle regarding an ongoing petition on the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak welfare schemes.

Justice NV Shravan Kumar also instructed the digital platforms not to permit future posts or material concerning the ongoing court proceedings related to the schemes.

The directions were issued following submissions by advocate Vijay Gopal, who appeared in person. Gopal argued before the court that the handle had been circulating false and contemptuous claims about the judicial proceedings and had accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of derailing the welfare initiatives.

Gopal informed the court that more than 70 cases have already been registered against the operator of the handle. He noted that although police have made strenuous efforts to apprehend the individual, the person continues to operate from abroad with their identity and location remaining unknown.

Stating that he had received threats from unidentified persons for arguing the matter, Gopal also requested police protection. The High Court scheduled the next hearing on the matter for August 20.
