Telangana HC Gives Pet Owner 3 Weeks to Relocate 37 Gachibowli Dogs

The Telangana High Court has granted entrepreneur Kameshwari Pidaparthi a three-week deadline to find suitable alternative accommodation for 37 dogs rescued from her three-bedroom apartment in a gated community at Gachibowli.

The animals were transferred to a shelter facility managed by People for Animals (PFA) in Nagole following complaints from residents of the gated community regarding nuisance. Pidaparthi told the court that she had been actively rescuing and sheltering dogs for several years, explaining that the animals were kept at her flat on a temporary basis until suitable adopters could be found.

The High Court was hearing a writ appeal filed by PFA, which sought permission from the court to put the rescued dogs up for adoption. During the hearing, the bench noted that following its earlier order issued on July 17, all medically fit dogs among the group were sterilised on July 29 and July 30 by an experienced veterinary team.

The GHMC veterinary officer of the Serilingampally Zone had also reviewed the pre-surgical medical checks and blood reports of the animals prior to the procedures.

Although the court expressed satisfaction with the sterilisation process, it noted that the question of adoption arose because Pidaparthi had failed to secure suitable premises for the animals despite being given repeated opportunities by the court.

Appearing in person before the court, Pidaparthi's mother requested a period of two months to arrange larger premises for housing the animals. The High Court, however, declined the two-month request and adjourned the case to September 21, granting three weeks instead.

The court directed that if alternative accommodation is found within the stipulated time, an affidavit detailing the new premises must be filed for inspection by GHMC authorities. It further specified that if suitable premises are not secured, the court may allow the younger dogs to be put up for adoption and will determine the custody of the remaining animals.
