Telangana Government School Parents to Sign Education Pledge at July 18 Meetings

The Telangana School Education department has introduced a new initiative requiring parents of students in government schools, local body schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), and Model Schools across Hyderabad and Telangana to sign a formal education pledge. This exercise will take place during the upcoming parent-teacher meetings scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026.
The initiative is designed to actively involve parents in their children's daily learning and academic progress. Under the new guidelines, parents attending the meetings must choose at least one of six specific promises, read it aloud, and sign a school register next to their selected promise.
The six promises from which parents must choose are: - "I will send my child to school every day" - "If my child is absent from school, I will inform the teacher" - "I will ask my child every day what happened at school" - "I will make sure my child studies at home every day" - "I will attend every PTM this year and discuss my child’s learning and behaviour" - "I will go to school once a month and discuss my child’s progress with the teachers individually"
School Education director Dr. E. Naveen Nicolas highlighted the seriousness of the initiative in an official noting. He stated that the pledge is not a mere form but a genuine promise, instructing schools and parents to treat it with appropriate importance. Parents are expected to follow their chosen promise for at least the next month.
Additionally, the department has requested parents to share feedback regarding their child's academic growth. Parents can submit their feedback in writing or record a short audio or video clip of three to four minutes.
School administrations and teachers have been instructed to inform parents about the July 18 meetings and ensure 100 percent parental participation. To accommodate working parents, Dr. Nicolas suggested that schools conduct the parent-teacher meetings at times that are most convenient for the families.
