Telangana Government Introduces Family Register Certificate via MeeSeva

In Hyderabad, the State government has introduced the "Family Register Certificate" to provide families with an authenticated digital record of their family composition for accessing government services. To implement the initiative, the Revenue department issued GO Ms. No. 172 on Saturday, establishing a new framework for family documentation across Telangana.

The government decided to create the state-wide electronic register, named the "Telangana Family Register," after observing that many citizens were facing difficulties in producing a reliable record of their family composition while trying to avail benefits under various government schemes.

Under the new system, each family will be assigned a Family Register Identification Number, which will be identical to the family's existing ration card number. The electronic database will contain detailed information about the household, including the name of the head of the family, details of each family member, their specific relationship to the head of the household, as well as the age, date of birth, Aadhaar numbers, and other relevant particulars of every member.

The Telangana Family Register Certificate is being integrated into the MeeSeva platform under the Revenue department services category. Citizens can apply for a copy of the certificate through any physical MeeSeva centre, the official MeeSeva online portal, or the MeeSeva mobile application upon payment of the prescribed user charges.

To be eligible to apply, an individual must be a family member whose particulars are recorded in the register and who has attained the age of majority. Once an application is submitted, the service will be delivered within two days.

Advisor to the Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir welcomed the State government’s decision to launch the digital register and certificate. He recalled that on July 13, he had submitted a representation to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy proposing the introduction of a Permanent Residence Certificate on the lines of Karnataka to assist residents facing documentation hurdles, particularly during the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Shabbir noted that the new initiative addresses a broader administrative requirement by creating an authenticated digital record grounded in the Food Security Card database.
