Telangana Government Deletes Clarification on CM Revanth Reddy Dual Voter Registration

Telangana Government Deletes Clarification on CM Revanth Reddy Dual Voter Registration

On July 14, 2026, a political debate erupted in Hyderabad after the Telangana government's official social media handle posted and subsequently deleted a clarification defending Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's dual voter registration. The post, which attributed the explanation to the Chief Electoral Officer, was removed within hours, raising questions about the state government's authority to issue clarifications on matters that legally fall under the domain of the Election Commission.

The state government’s initiative on X, 'FactCheck_Telangana', published the statement on Tuesday. The post came a day after reports emerged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was enrolled as a voter in two different Assembly constituencies falling under two separate Parliamentary constituencies.

Electoral rolls show that Reddy is registered as a voter in the Kodangal Assembly constituency under the Mahabubnagar Parliamentary constituency, as well as the Achampet Assembly constituency under the Nagarkurnool Parliamentary constituency. Both voter entries carry the exact same EPIC number, TES0274035.

In the now-deleted post, 'FactCheck_Telangana' maintained that the "Electoral Commission" had clarified that the dual entry with the same EPIC number was an "electoral roll anomaly." However, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana did not post any such clarification on its own social media handles.

The deleted statement claimed that the anomaly was being addressed through an ongoing Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls. It stated that the correction would be made by the concerned District Election Officer following the prescribed procedures of the Election Commission of India.

According to the deleted post, the Chief Minister's family had already informed electoral authorities of their wish to retain his voter registration in the Kodangal constituency. They had reportedly requested the deletion of his name from the Kondareddypally electoral roll.

Officials noted that the Special Intensive Revision exercise is designed to identify and remove duplicate, outdated, and erroneous entries, which often occur when voters migrate or fail to update their registration records.
