Telangana Forms Special Committee To Probe Dharani And Bhu Bharathi Portal Flaws

The Telangana state government has constituted a special committee to investigate irregularities and security vulnerabilities in the Dharani and Bhu Bharathi portals. The decision was announced on Wednesday following a high-level review meeting conducted by Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy at the Secretariat in Hyderabad.

Revenue Secretary DS Lokesh Kumar stated on Wednesday that the state government is taking a stern stance regarding the irregularities that have recently come to light concerning both land portals. The probe aims to identify those responsible for unauthorized entries, initiate strict action against the guilty, and establish preventive measures to secure the portals.

The government's action comes after an ongoing forensic audit of the Dharani portal exposed inherent security flaws in its system architecture. Lokesh Kumar explained that unscrupulous elements had exploited these specific system vulnerabilities to make unauthorized entries through certain modules of the portal.

Furthermore, officials expressed concern over the Bhu Bharathi portal, which was developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). Because the Bhu Bharathi portal shares the same technology architecture as the Dharani portal, the government noted that it could be highly susceptible to similar security flaws.

State authorities suspect the involvement of the very individuals who originally designed the modules for the Dharani portal. The suspected design-level vulnerability has prompted the government to launch a deeper investigation into the creation of these systems.

The newly formed special committee will probe the matter thoroughly to identify all individuals involved in the irregularities. In addition to initiating strict legal and administrative action against those found guilty, the committee is tasked with recommending robust measures to prevent the recurrence of such security breaches in the future.
