Telangana Food Safety Officials Seize 850 Kg of Suspected Adulterated Ghee in Hyderabad

The Telangana Food Safety Department, in coordination with local police, conducted special inspections across 14 establishments in Hyderabad on July 14 and July 15, 2026, resulting in the seizure of 850 kg of suspected adulterated ghee. During the joint operation, authorities also destroyed 60 kg of ghee that was deemed unfit for consumption to prevent it from reaching consumers.

According to Food Safety Commissioner Sangeetha Satyanarayana, the special inspections were launched after the department received credible information regarding the mixing of foreign substances, such as palm oil and vanaspati, into ghee.

During the crackdown, officials preliminarily confirmed the presence of foreign fats in ghee produced by some licensed entities. Furthermore, the inspections revealed that other firms were actively manufacturing and selling ghee without possessing any required license or registration.

The Food Safety Department has collected samples of the ghee and sent them to a laboratory for testing. Commissioner Satyanarayana stated that the seized 850 kg of stock will be held in storage pending the laboratory reports. She emphasized that legal action will be taken against the food business operators and violators if the laboratory tests confirm adulteration.

In a statement, Commissioner Satyanarayana advised consumers to purchase ghee only from licensed and trustworthy establishments. She urged the public to check for the FSSAI license number and the manufacturing label on the packaging before making any purchase.

Consumers were also advised to retain their purchase bills and to immediately report to the Food Safety Department if they suspect the sale of unlicensed or adulterated food products.
