Telangana engineering colleges expand evening BTech courses to 1170 seats

Fourteen engineering colleges across Telangana are set to offer evening BE and BTech programmes for the 2026-27 academic year, expanding opportunities for working professionals to upskill. The Telangana Council of Higher Education has entrusted Osmania University in Hyderabad with conducting the entrance test for these courses, which have seen their total intake increase to 1,170 seats this year.
The number of participating colleges has grown to 14, up from 11 institutions last year. This initiative, backed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), allows diploma holders to pursue undergraduate engineering degrees through evening and weekend classes while continuing their regular employment.
The programmes primarily focus on core engineering branches, including Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mining Engineering. Some institutions are also offering Computer Science and Engineering programmes.
Classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and throughout the day on weekends. To be eligible, candidates must hold a diploma in a relevant field and be employed in a registered industry or organisation located within a 75-kilometre radius of the college or their residence.
Successful candidates who qualify in the entrance test will gain admission directly into the second year of the BE or BTech programme.
The last date to submit online applications is August 14, 2026, with a registration fee of Rs 3,000. Candidates can also apply with a late fee of Rs 1,500 until August 22, 2026. Hall tickets will be available for download starting August 26, 2026, ahead of the entrance test scheduled for August 30, 2026. Results for the exam will be declared on September 5, 2026.
