Telangana Electorate May Drop by 73 Lakh Following Revision Drive

HYDERABAD — The total number of electors in Telangana is likely to come down by over 73 lakh following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy announced in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Out of the state's total 3.38 crore voters, enumeration forms for 2.64 crore electors—or 78.30 per cent—have been successfully digitised so far.

Meanwhile, 73.39 lakh voter enumeration forms, representing 21.70 per cent of the total registered voters in the state, were classified as uncollectable during the verification exercise.

Detailed findings provided by the election authority show that the majority of uncollectable forms belonged to citizens who have permanently relocated. A total of 45,18,961 voters were found to have permanently shifted, while 11,25,546 voters were categorized as absent or untraceable.

In addition, 9,22,230 voters on the rolls were confirmed to be dead, and 6,70,203 individuals were identified as already enrolled. Another 1,02,294 entries were recorded under other voter categories.

The physical verification was carried out by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) through house-to-house visits across Telangana. The door-to-door survey drive officially began on June 25 and concluded on August 10.

With the field visits completed, the state election authority has outlined the roadmap leading up to the release of the updated voter list. The draft electoral rolls are scheduled for publication on August 17.

Following the draft release, members of the public will be able to file claims and objections between August 17 and September 16. The notice phase along with the disposal of all submitted claims and objections will be handled from August 17 through October 15.

The final electoral roll for Telangana will officially be published on October 19.
