Telangana DPH Issues Health Advisory for Seasonal Illnesses Across Hyderabad

Telangana Director of Public Health Dr B Ravinder Nayak issued a general health advisory on Sunday, urging residents across Hyderabad and the state's districts to observe strict precautions during the ongoing inclement weather.

According to the advisory, the current weather pattern is expected to bring lower temperatures and higher humidity levels across the region. Health officials warned that these conditions could potentially trigger a rise in seasonal illnesses, particularly vector-borne, waterborne, and airborne diseases.

To curb the spread of vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, and chikungunya, the DPH advised families to secure doors, windows, beds, and cribs with mosquito nets and screens. Residents were urged to apply mosquito repellents, maintain domestic drains to prevent water stagnation, and cover domestic septic tanks. The advisory also encouraged the public to observe a weekly ‘Friday-Dry Day’ to clear stagnant water accumulating in and around their households.

In addition to mosquito control, the advisory outlined key measures to avoid waterborne infections, including acute gastroenteritis, jaundice, and typhoid. The health department instructed the public to consume only boiled or filtered water, wash hands thoroughly before and after meals, and refrain from eating stale food purchased outside.

To limit the transmission of airborne infections such as influenza and viral fevers, the DPH asked citizens to avoid shaking hands with individuals who are sick, practice regular hand sanitisation, and use handkerchiefs while coughing or sneezing.

People developing flu-like symptoms, such as cough accompanied by fever, headache, sore throat, and body pains, have been advised to seek medical attention at nearby government health facilities. The health department also urged citizens to contact the 108 Ambulance Services in the event of a medical emergency.
