Telangana Doctors Demand Justice as Medico Succumbs to Injury at KIMS Secunderabad

Dr. Kanike Priyanka, a postgraduate medical student hailing from Gadwal, passed away on Sunday, August 9, at KIMS in Secunderabad after succumbing to severe injuries sustained in a road collision. Her death has sparked widespread grief and outrage across the medical fraternity in Telangana, with doctors' groups demanding exemplary legal action against those responsible for her demise.

The fatal accident occurred on August 3, when Dr. Priyanka was traveling on a two-wheeler alongside a friend. Their vehicle was struck in a collision by a car driven by intoxicated youngsters. Dr. Priyanka sustained severe head injuries in the crash and was immediately rushed to KIMS, Secunderabad, for advanced critical care. She was subsequently declared brain-dead before tragically passing away on Sunday.

Dr. Priyanka was pursuing her Master’s degree as an MD (DVL) student at GSL Medical College in Rajamahendravaram, formerly known as Rajahmundry. Following the news of her passing, several organizations representing government doctors across Telangana extended their deepest condolences to her bereaved family and called for strict action against the individuals allegedly responsible for the fatal incident.

Telangana Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha expressed profound shock over the young doctor's demise and offered his heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. In a statement, the minister said that the loss of a young doctor with a promising future is deeply painful. He expressed hope that the circumstances surrounding the collision are thoroughly investigated and justice is delivered.

The Telangana Junior Doctors’ Association (T-JUDA) and the Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGDA) strongly condemned the incident in a joint call for accountability. Both medical bodies have demanded a transparent and time-bound probe into the matter, insisting on stringent legal action without any dilution of charges against those involved.

Both T-JUDA and TGDA maintained that medical professionals deserve absolute safety and dignity while going about their lives. The medical associations vowed to stand firmly with Dr. Priyanka’s grieving family until swift justice is delivered.
