Telangana DGP Refutes BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind's Surveillance Claims

HYDERABAD — Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C V Anand on Tuesday refuted claims made by BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind that a state police officer had been assigned to monitor his movements on the instructions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's brother.

The clarification came after Arvind posted on social media platform X, alleging that an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) rank officer was tasked with tracking him at the behest of the Chief Minister's family member.

In his public post addressed directly to the DGP, Arvind questioned the chain of command within the state police department. Arvind stated that he had known Anand for decades and regarded him as a competent officer, but questioned whether the Telangana Police functioned under the Constitution and a lawful chain of command or on instructions from members of the Chief Minister's family. He added that the police force is accountable to the law rather than any political family.

Responding to the parliamentarian on X, DGP Anand stated that he conducted a thorough verification following the allegations and confirmed that no surveillance had been authorised or conducted.

Anand stated that he took time to verify the matter from all concerned personnel and clarified that no officers had been assigned duty to tail or watch the MP. The DGP noted that the department does not believe in or adopt such methods.

Anand also assured the MP that if additional details were available regarding the claim, Arvind could share them personally with him for a complete verification.
