Telangana DGP CV Anand Hoists Tricolor at Karregutta Hills

Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand hoisted the Indian national flag at a height of 650 feet on Karregutta Hills, along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, on Monday. The event, held five days before Independence Day, marked the first time in 50 years that the national flag was raised on the Telangana side of the hills.

For several decades, the dense forest area of Karregutta remained inaccessible to government officials and served as a safe haven for Maoists. It was previously one of the most heavily mined areas under the control of the Communist Party of India (Maoist).

The situation changed following the launch of Operation Kagar by the Central government. During the operation, several Maoists were either killed in encounters or surrendered before security forces, clearing the path for developmental activities in the region.

As an initial step toward infrastructure development, a road temporarily being built from Pamunuru, the base point of Karregutta Hills, has now been extended for 20 kilometres up to the border of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.

DGP Anand reached the area by road in a vehicle convoy traversing extremely difficult and largely unmotorable terrain. He led an inter-departmental delegation that included senior officials from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Intelligence department, and the Forest department.
