Telangana Dealer Point Vehicle Registrations Cross One Lakh Mark

Vehicle registrations completed directly at automobile showrooms across Telangana have crossed the one-lakh mark since the state transport department introduced dealer point registration in the last week of January.

The procedure allows consumers to buy and register vehicles at the exact same point, exempting vehicle owners from spending long hours at local Regional Transport Authority (RTA) offices to obtain their Registration Certificate (RC).

Dr K. Venkat Ramana, joint transport commissioner, confirmed the landmark figure, stating that the department has marked one lakh non-commercial vehicle registrations at showrooms since the introduction of the service. He explained that the online portal is maintained by the central agency National Informatics Centre (NIC) and affirmed that the department is making all efforts to overcome existing issues, noting that developments are taking place day by day.

While the initiative has been widely appreciated as a positive reform, showroom dealers pointed out that the portal initially suffered from operational difficulties, including constant technical glitches and frequent server downtime. Although portal performance has since improved, dealers added that the system still needs to be brought to 100 per cent efficiency to eliminate slowdowns while uploading details.

Showroom dealers also complained of ongoing delays in issuing Registration Certificates to customers, with some cases taking more than a month. Under the current process, the physical RC is sent directly to the customer's address through the post.

Peter Paul, CEO of Fortune Honda, highlighted the issues faced by showroom operators due to departmental delays. He noted that because RCs are dispatched by post, customers reach out directly to dealers when delays occur on the department's side, emphasizing that the issue needs to be set right.
