Telangana Crime Rose 7.15% Over Three Years As Organised Crime Jumped

Overall crime in Telangana registered a 7.15 per cent increase over the past three years, driven primarily by a sharp increase in organised crime, narcotics, and traffic offences, according to figures reviewed during a half-yearly crime review meeting chaired by Director General of Police C.V. Anand in Hyderabad on Friday.

Official records presented at the meeting revealed that total registered cases across the state increased from 2,65,377 in 2023-24 to 2,84,363 in 2025-26. The most dramatic rise occurred in organised crime, where reported cases jumped by approximately 1,704 per cent, rising from 25 to 451 cases. Narcotics offences also registered a significant increase of 46.10 per cent, growing from 2,026 cases to 2,960.

Non-grave offences climbed by 7.28 per cent, increasing from 2,59,201 cases in 2023-24 to 2,78,069 in 2025-26. Traffic offences also showed an upward trajectory, rising 9.48 per cent from 29,130 cases to 31,891.

In contrast, grave crimes declined across the state by 10.33 per cent, falling from 7,019 cases in 2024-25 to 6,294 in 2025-26. Hyderabad recorded a notable reduction in grave crime cases, which dropped from 1,483 to 1,094.

Reductions were also recorded in white-collar and digital crimes. Cybercrime cases fell by 13.29 per cent to 22,000 cases, while economic offences declined by 13.28 per cent to 32,684 cases.

Addressing police officials, DGP Anand instructed officers to adopt data-driven, unit-specific strategies to counter evolving crime patterns, calling for enhanced surveillance of drug rings and organised criminal networks. He emphasized that policing priorities must be continuously adjusted based on the specific crime profiles of individual units.

The review also evaluated Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) performance, noting that the data updating rate improved to 96 per cent from the earlier range of 70 to 80 per cent.
