Telangana CID Launches Probe Against Jogulamba DIG L.S. Chauhan Over Corruption

Jogulamba Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) L.S. Chauhan has been directed to report to the Director General of Police (DGP) office with immediate effect following the launch of a Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) probe into serious allegations of embezzlement, extortion, and misuse of power.
A special CID team began the investigation based on directives from senior police leadership. The action comes after state DGP C.V. Anand stated during a press conference in Warangal on August 10 that the performance of four police officials remained unsatisfactory despite prior warnings. Officials indicated that Chauhan continued to misuse his official position despite being cautioned.
A departmental inquiry conducted prior to the CID probe revealed that Chauhan purchased several acres of land valued at crores of rupees and allegedly used extorted money to construct a posh villa. Sources stated that he failed to inform the department head about the real estate acquisitions, violating mandatory service rules regarding prior intimation of property transactions.
Chauhan also faces allegations of collecting money by intervening in civil property disputes, accepting bribes in exchange for promoting head constables to assistant sub-inspectors, and arranging transfers to preferred postings.
Additionally, a complaint submitted directly to the DGP accused Chauhan of using abusive and vulgar language against subordinates who refused to pay him illicit collections or "mamool."
CID teams are currently recording statements from police personnel who served under Chauhan and are examining the role of deputy superintendents of police suspected of assisting in the collection of funds. Formal disciplinary or legal action is expected once the CID submits its final inquiry report.
