Telangana CEO Orders Action Over Assault On Women Booth Level Officers In Hyderabad

Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudershan Reddy has ordered the state police department and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner to take immediate action following the assault and obstruction of women Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Hyderabad. The incident took place a few days ago while the women officers were actively discharging their official election duties.
In an official communication, the Chief Electoral Officer urged the Director-General of Police (DGP) and the GHMC Commissioner to conduct a swift enquiry into the incident. The top officials have been instructed to take all necessary actions immediately to address the assault.
Additionally, Reddy has mandated that a compliance report detailing the actions taken must be furnished to the Telangana State Commission for Women. A copy of the compliance report must also be submitted directly to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office immediately.
The directive emphasizes the severity of obstructing public servants, specifically women BLOs, from conducting official electoral work. Reddy explicitly requested the police department and the GHMC Commissioner to treat the issue as most urgent and to act accordingly.
The incident has triggered an urgent inquiry, highlighting the seriousness of obstructing election officials on duty. By demanding immediate action and compliance reports, the Chief Electoral Officer aims to ensure that such disruptions to electoral processes are met with swift legal consequences.
