Telangana Cancels 1.04-Acre Urdu Academy Land Allotment In Serilingampally

The Telangana government has cancelled the allotment of 1.04 acres of Urdu Academy land located at Dargah Hussain Shah Wali village in Serilingampally to a private firm following widespread protests and criticism from various sections.
The decision comes after the Minorities Welfare department previously issued GOMs No. 20, which had granted 1.04 acres of Telangana Urdu Academy land at Survey No. 29 in Serilingampally to NN Infra & Constructions on a 30-year lease.
The initial allotment drew strong backlash from multiple groups who raised questions over handing over the academy's land to a private commercial entity without following due procedure. Calls were made to safeguard the valuable land holding and ensure it remained dedicated to the original objectives for which it was allotted.
In response to the order, democratic protests were organised and awareness sessions were conducted across Telangana regarding the allotment and its implications. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had also submitted a formal representation to the Minorities Welfare department seeking the cancellation of GOMs No. 20, alongside demands for an independent inquiry into the matter.
Following the cancellation of the order, former BRS State Secretary and former Telangana State Waqf Board Member Waheed Ahmed welcomed the government's decision. He described the revocation as a victory for public accountability, the protection of public property, and the promotion of Urdu language and culture.
Ahmed further urged the state government to develop the Serilingampally site for its intended educational and cultural purposes. He proposed the construction of a permanent Urdu Academy building, an auditorium, a library, a research centre, and an Urdu cultural complex on the land, noting that such infrastructure would directly benefit students, scholars, writers, and the wider community.
