Telangana Cabinet Approves Tenders for Rs 7,345 Crore Musi Rejuvenation Project

The Telangana State Cabinet has officially approved proposals to float tenders for the first phase of the Musi Rejuvenation project in Hyderabad. The decision, made during a cabinet meeting on July 2, 2026, greenlights a major Rs 7,345 crore environmental and infrastructure initiative.

The first phase of the rejuvenation project will cover a 21 km stretch, spanning from Himayath Sagar to Bapu Ghat. The approval to begin the tendering process comes despite opposition to the project from various quarters.

According to the approved plans, the physical works for the first phase will target specific river stretches. The development and restoration activities will be executed from Himayath Sagar to River Esa, and from the Osman Sagar to River Musa confluence point to Bapu Ghat.

To manage the scale of the work, the cabinet approved the creation of 147 new administrative and technical posts. These positions are specifically sanctioned for the execution and monitoring of the rejuvenation works.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy briefed media persons regarding the cabinet's decisions. He indicated that the government is prepared to deploy additional staff on deputation if the project requires more manpower beyond the sanctioned 147 posts.

The Musi Rejuvenation project represents a significant state-led effort to clean and restore the river system in Hyderabad. With the cabinet's approval for the first phase, the tendering process is set to begin, paving the way for physical restoration works along the 21 km corridor.
