Telangana AYUSH Doctors Enter Day 12 of Strike Demanding Stipend Revision

HYDERABAD — The indefinite strike launched by AYUSH house surgeons, postgraduate doctors, and students across Telangana entered its 12th consecutive day on Saturday, with demonstrators escalating their demonstration by launching relay hunger strikes at government AYUSH institutions.

The agitation has been organized to press the state administration for an official revision of stipends for AYUSH house surgeons and postgraduate doctors, an issue that the protesters state has been pending without resolution for nearly 10 years.

According to the protesting doctors and students, repeated representations and appeals have been submitted to authorities over the past decade concerning the revision of their stipends. Despite these persistent efforts and regular representations, no formal decision has been made by the government for around a decade to address the financial concerns of AYUSH practitioners in state-run medical facilities.

To register their protest against the prolonged delay, students, house surgeons, and postgraduate doctors have been staging continuous demonstrations. On Saturday, marking the 12th day of the strike, protesters initiated relay hunger strikes at government AYUSH institutions to further press their long-standing demands.

The demonstrators stressed that they intend to maintain their protest until concrete measures are taken by the government to fulfill their demands.

"We will not step back until justice is done. We will continue our struggle through relay hunger strikes and urge the government to address our demand," the protesters said.

The protesting medical practitioners and students have called upon the government to intervene, address their grievances promptly, and implement the necessary stipend revisions for house surgeons and postgraduate doctors across all government AYUSH institutions in Telangana.
