Techie Arrested After Speeding Car Injures 7 Pedestrians in ECIL Area

A 36-year-old software engineer and his co-passenger have been arrested by the police after a speeding car allegedly rammed into a group of pedestrians in the early hours of Tuesday in Hyderabad. The road accident took place at around 12:30 a.m. near New Chaitanya College, located in the ECIL area. Following the crash, police stated that they suspect the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

According to the police, the pedestrians who were struck were workers hailing from Bihar. They were returning home on foot after completing their work shifts at a local bar and restaurant in the area. While they were walking along the stretch, the speeding car approached the group from behind and allegedly struck them before the driver fled the spot without stopping.

Seven workers sustained injuries in the hit-and-run incident, including three who suffered serious injuries. The three seriously injured victims have been identified by the police as Ajay Kumar, Bipin Kumar Yadav, and Rajesh Yadav. Following the collision, the injured workers were initially taken to local hospitals in the ECIL area for medical treatment.

The vehicle involved in the crash was subsequently identified as a Hyundai Verna. CCTV footage of the incident has since emerged from the area, capturing the car as it approached the pedestrians from behind and hit them. The visual evidence from the surveillance cameras proved critical in helping the police trace the vehicle and identify the driver as Pawan Kumar, a 36-year-old software engineer.

On Wednesday, Kushaiguda Police arrested the accused driver, Pawan Kumar, along with another person who was travelling inside the car at the time of the incident. As part of their investigation into the crash, police sent Kumar's blood sample to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis to examine the suspected drunken driving, and the laboratory report is currently awaited.

A case has been registered by the Kushaiguda Police, and officers are continuing to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators are specifically probing the alleged drunken driving as well as the driver's actions after the collision, while examining CCTV footage, medical records, and other evidence gathered in the probe.
