TEACH Initiative Launched at Osmania University to Promote Hospitality Careers

On Wednesday, colleges affiliated with Osmania University offering hotel management and culinary arts programmes launched a new outreach initiative, the Telangana Association of Educators in Culinary and Hospitality (TEACH), at Osmania University to promote careers in the hospitality and culinary sectors. The initiative aims to educate students and parents about diverse employment prospects and bridge the awareness gap surrounding these professions.

The launch event brought together academicians, industry leaders, and hospitality professionals to highlight career opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, cruise tourism, healthcare hospitality, food service, and related sectors.

Speaking at the launch, Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Kumar Molugaram stated that hospitality education offers diverse and rewarding career opportunities comparable to any other profession. He noted that the university has continuously upgraded its curriculum to meet global industry standards by incorporating emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and extensive practical training. He also urged students to choose government-approved and university-affiliated institutions to secure quality education and recognised degrees.

TEACH president Saka Sudha Kumar explained that the initiative seeks to guide students towards recognised institutions while addressing a significant shortage of trained hospitality professionals in India. He noted that this shortage creates excellent career opportunities for graduates.

Sandeep Joshi, Vice-president (South India Area) of Radisson Blu Hotels, shared a positive outlook for the sector, noting that leading hotel chains continue to expand aggressively in India and international markets. He added that modern hospitality graduates have opportunities extending beyond traditional hotels into luxury resorts, airlines, airport services, cruise lines, event and convention management, facility management, healthcare hospitality, tourism organisations, and corporate guest relations.

Telangana Chefs Association (TCA) president Amey Marathe emphasised that culinary education now offers paths far beyond traditional kitchen operations. He stated that skilled culinary professionals are among the most sought-after talent globally, with opportunities available throughout the Middle East, Europe, North America, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
