TCA warns HCA against expanding cricket activities into Telangana districts

On Monday, 29 June 2026, the Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) cautioned the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) against expanding its cricket activities into Telangana districts. Speaking in Hyderabad, TCA General Secretary Dharam Guruva Reddy warned that any unilateral action by the HCA would disregard pending proceedings before the Bombay High Court and binding directions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The warning followed the HCA's sudden announcement that it plans to establish cricket academies across eight Telangana districts. These academies are scheduled to be set up under the coordination of former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu.

Guruva Reddy questioned the announcement, advising everyone associated with the initiative to obtain proper legal advice first. He remarked that cricketing stature cannot override the judicial process and urged individuals to understand the legal position before making public announcements.

According to the TCA, the BCCI issued an order on July 11, 2021, directing both the HCA and the TCA to collaborate on cricket administration beyond Hyderabad. Guruva Reddy stated that the HCA had previously assured the court it would implement this collaborative process, which led to BCCI-convened joint meetings in 2025 and 2026.

"The Lakshman Rekha has already been drawn by the courts and the BCCI. Crossing it will have legal consequences," Guruva Reddy said. He noted that district cricket in Telangana was built through 12 years of relentless effort by the TCA when no other organisation came forward.

Guruva Reddy questioned why the HCA repeatedly sought time before the Bombay High Court and participated in the joint meetings if it believed the collaboration was illegal. He added that one cannot promise compliance inside the courtroom and deny it outside.

The TCA warned that any unilateral attempt by the HCA to exercise jurisdiction beyond Hyderabad without following the collaborative process directed by the BCCI would amount to a serious challenge to the rule of law. This action would compel the TCA to pursue every remedy available under the law.
