TCA Protests TG20 League At Indira Park Over Alleged Rule Violations

The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) staged a dharna at Indira Park in Hyderabad on Sunday, June 7, 2026, to protest against the conduct of the TG20 League cricket tournament. The association alleged that the league is being organized in violation of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) rules and lacks approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The protest coincided with the player auction for the TG20 League, which was held by the HCA in the city on the same day.

TCA general secretary Guruva Reddy explained that according to Rule 28 of the HCA, the responsibility of electing the Governing Council lies solely with the HCA General Body through an official election. Furthermore, under Rule 30, the HCA Governing Council must obtain written permission from the BCCI before organizing such tournaments.

Reddy alleged that a self-proclaimed Governing Council is currently deceiving the public by falsely claiming they have obtained the necessary BCCI permission.

The TCA warned of severe consequences for these alleged violations. Under Rule 31, the official recognition of the HCA could be revoked. Additionally, participating players, officials, and organizations could face bans from the sport. Reddy noted that these bans would also apply to prominent players such as Tilak Varma and Mohammed Siraj if they participate.

Other prominent TCA leaders also spoke at the protest, including former MLA and TCA co-chairperson Yendala Laxminarayana, TCA vice-president Dr. Vijay Chander Reddy, and former SATG chairman A. Venkateshwar Reddy.

The speakers criticized the HCA for neglecting genuine cricket talent across the wider Telangana region. They alleged that the HCA has focused its development efforts almost exclusively on the twin cities, leaving rural and district talent without proper opportunities.
