TATA IPL 2026 Becomes Most Watched Season Ever With 1.2 Billion Viewers

HYDERABAD - JioStar announced on Monday that the TATA IPL 2026 has become the most-watched season in the history of the tournament, reaching more than 1.2 billion viewers. The milestone represents a seven percent year-on-year growth in total reach for the cricket league across television, digital, and connected TV platforms.

The final match of the season, which culminated in Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning the championship title for a second consecutive year, established its own record. The final became the most-watched TATA IPL match in history, drawing a viewership of over 400 million people across various screens.

According to the data released by JioStar, the entire tournament kept audiences engaged for a record-breaking total watch-time of 870 billion minutes. The growth was particularly prominent on digital screens, where digital video views climbed to 25 billion, marking an eight percent increase compared to the previous year.

Connected TV platforms experienced a rapid ascent during the season, growing by 22 percent. JioStar noted that this growth highlighted the convergence of television-scale reach with digital precision for advertisers. The surge in digital viewership was primarily driven by two key audience segments: affluent consumers and young viewers.

Additionally, regional language broadcasts saw a significant boost during the 2026 season. The share of regional language watch-time on digital platforms increased by 33 percent.

Ishan Chatterjee, the Chief Executive Officer of JioStar Sports, shared insights on the season's broadcast strategy. Chatterjee stated that the company aimed to establish what a truly integrated sports platform should look like.

"TATA IPL 2026 was a season where we set out on our journey of what a truly integrated sports platform should look like," Chatterjee said. "Our endeavour was to make every screen, every interaction and every moment meaningful, so that fans are not only watching sports on our platform but also interacting with it in ways that are deeply contextual and personal."
