TASL Signs MoU With Javelin Joint Venture to Co-Produce Anti-Tank Missiles

Tata Advanced Systems Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Javelin Joint Venture to co-produce the Javelin All Up Round anti-tank missile in India, the partnering companies announced on Monday. The initiative comes as Hyderabad continues to function as a premier missile development and aerospace manufacturing hub hosting key TASL joint venture operations.

The Javelin Joint Venture is an alliance formed between Raytheon, an operating unit of American aerospace and defence giant RTX Corporation, and Lockheed Martin. According to the companies, the agreement will support the future production demands of the Javelin anti-tank weapon system while providing strategic opportunities for Indian industry and contributing to regional stability across the Indo-Pacific.

Under the terms outlined in the memorandum of understanding, the partners plan to explore the establishment of a final assembly and integration facility within India for the anti-tank missile round. In addition to the assembly plant, the collaboration will seek to build component production capabilities supported by Indian domestic suppliers.

The proposed co-production model divides manufacturing responsibilities across multiple sites. Lockheed Martin's plant located in Troy, Alabama, is slated to continue manufacturing sub-assembly kits for the weapon system. Meanwhile, Raytheon's facility based in Tucson, Arizona, will handle the production of the guidance electronics units.

Once manufactured at the respective American facilities, these sub-assemblies and guidance units will be shipped directly to India for final assembly and integration. The partners noted that this distribution of work is structured to sustain existing employment and operations within the United States supply chain while simultaneously establishing and expanding manufacturing capacity in India.

The participating companies have not yet officially revealed the chosen location for the upcoming manufacturing and assembly facility in India. However, Hyderabad remains the country's central hub for missile research, development, and production, and TASL already maintains joint venture aerospace manufacturing operations within the city.
