Tarun Joshi to probe Shahbad police negligence in handling POCSO case

Future City Police Commissioner Tarun Joshi announced on Saturday that the police department will examine allegations of negligence by the Shahbad police in Hyderabad regarding their handling of a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case. The decision to investigate the local police follows complaints from the victim's family about the department's response to the harassment.

The POCSO case was originally registered on May 16 after the mother of a minor girl filed a complaint against the accused, identified as P Raj Kumar, for allegedly harassing her daughter. Following the filing of the case, Raj Kumar managed to remain untraceable for a period of two weeks, raising concerns about the speed and effectiveness of the local police response.

The Shahbad police eventually tracked down and arrested Raj Kumar on May 26. Since his arrest, the accused managed to secure bail and has subsequently attended counseling sessions two or three times.

Media representatives brought the family's complaints of police negligence to the attention of Commissioner Tarun Joshi. In response to these queries, Joshi confirmed that the family had complained about the handling of the case and stated, "We are examining it."

In addition to the active POCSO harassment case, Commissioner Joshi stated that Raj Kumar is facing another pending case involving a land dispute. Meanwhile, family members of the accused have informed the police that Raj Kumar suffers from mental health issues and has also been involved in gambling.
