Take-Two Seeks Court Order to Unmask Cyberleek Over GTA VI Leaks

Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have initiated legal action and issued takedown notices to identify members of the anonymous leaker group "Cyberleek" on platforms including GitHub and Discord, following a series of unauthorized Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay and map leaks.

Over the past week, Cyberleek released nine separate sets of leaks containing screenshots and video footage from what appears to be a functional pre-release build of the upcoming game. The disclosures came ahead of Rockstar's planned promotional campaign, which included an official exclusive reveal on Netflix scheduled for August 27 as a six-hour timed extended look.

In response to the leaks, Take-Two's legal team approached the courts requesting identifier information for accounts associated with Cyberleek across online platforms. The legal effort also seeks information regarding individuals suspected of working with the group, including a popular GTA content streamer.

The leakers published a manifesto claiming their actions represent a movement against industry practices, specifically targeting publishers that halt physical disc distribution and encourage pre-orders for unfinished games. The group also cited grievances over cosmetic downloadable content and the loss of single-player content caused by server shutdowns, referencing broader industry shifts away from physical media.

However, Cyberleek has simultaneously engaged in cryptocurrency activities alongside the leaks. The group launched and promoted the Cyberleek coin on digital currency markets, urging followers to buy and pledge tokens on voting platforms while selling advertising space within the leaked files.

Legal proceedings have not halted the disclosures, as Cyberleek published further content on the day court action began. GTA VI remains scheduled for its global launch in November.
