Suspense Over Mirza Rahmath Baig's Resignation as MLC After AIMIM Expulsion

Uncertainty continues in Hyderabad over whether Mirza Rahmath Baig, who was expelled from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Friday night, will submit his resignation from the Telangana Legislative Council.

The development follows the AIMIM leadership asking Baig to step down from his post as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) after a purported video alleging sexual misconduct surfaced and triggered widespread discussion across social media platforms.

Baig has remained incommunicado since Friday afternoon, with his mobile phones switched off. There has been no official confirmation regarding whether he has submitted a formal resignation letter to the Chairperson of the Legislative Council or whether he intends to do so. While the AIMIM leadership directed him to resign from his council seat alongside his expulsion from the party, reports indicate he is not inclined to step down.

In a video statement issued regarding the matter, Baig denied any wrongdoing and alleged that the video in question had been generated and circulated using artificial intelligence to defame him and the political party.

Baig also appealed to the public not to link AIMIM, party president Asaduddin Owaisi, or AIMIM floor leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi to the controversy. A complaint was subsequently lodged with law enforcement, and a case has been registered by the police.

In addition, Baig's social media accounts have shown no major updates following the controversy. The last recorded update across his profiles documented his recent visit to Saudi Arabia for the Umrah pilgrimage.
