Suspected Heroin Peddler Escapes From Patancheru Excise Station

A suspected drug peddler escaped from custody at the Patancheru excise station early on Wednesday, prompting a joint manhunt by excise teams and local law enforcement.

The suspect, identified as Abdul Rehman, a native of West Bengal, had been detained by excise police from Kollur late on August 11. Officials had reportedly seized six grams of heroin from his possession at the time of his apprehension and brought him to the Patancheru excise station for questioning.

According to officials, the escape occurred early on Wednesday morning when excise constable Sanjay Kumar stepped away to relieve himself. Rehman allegedly took advantage of the brief absence, broke through a ventilator in the station facility, and managed to flee the premises.

Excise personnel had been preparing to officially record Rehman's statement regarding the broader drug network, specifically seeking information on his suppliers as well as local consumers operating in the area.

Following the incident, constable Sanjay Kumar lodged a formal complaint regarding the escape. Based on the complaint, the Patancheru law and order police registered a case.

Police teams, working in coordination with excise officials, have launched a search operation across the surrounding areas to trace and re-arrest Rehman.
