Suspected Drug Peddler Rams Car into Police in Abids, Injuring Two Officers

Two police officers were injured in Abids on Sunday, July 26, 2026, afternoon after a suspected drug peddler allegedly rammed his vehicle into personnel while fleeing a raid by the Hyderabad City Police’s Narcotic Enforcement Wing. Following the incident, separate cases of attempt to murder were registered against the accused at the Abids and Afzalgunj Police Stations.

The Hyderabad City Police’s Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) had set up surveillance in Abids after receiving specific intelligence regarding an alleged drug transaction scheduled to take place at around 2 p.m. on Sunday. Officers stationed in the locality intercepted a car, bearing registration number TG 12 8766, which the suspected peddler had allegedly driven to the location to supply narcotics.

Police reported that the accused initially appeared to comply with instructions from officers to pull over his vehicle. However, as officers approached the car on foot, the suspect allegedly accelerated suddenly, ramming directly into the police personnel before speeding away from the spot.

Police constable Mahesh Yadav suffered a fracture to his right leg during the collision, while another policeman, Vamshi, sustained minor injuries. Mahesh Yadav lodged a formal complaint late on Sunday night, leading to the registration of an attempt to murder case at the Abids Police Station.

As the investigation progressed, police established that the same car had allegedly been used earlier on Sunday to ram into another police officer in the Afzalgunj area while the driver was evading interception. The suspect has been identified by police as Saif, a resident of the Husseini Alam neighbourhood. A second attempt to murder case was registered at the Afzalgunj Police Station in relation to that earlier encounter.

Search operations are currently underway as police teams work to locate and apprehend Saif, while investigators continue probing the broader alleged drug supply network. According to details on the e-challan website, the vehicle used in the incidents is registered under the name of Mohd Shareef and has unpaid pending challans amounting to ₹2,440 accumulated since June 12.
