Surrendered Maoists Urge Telangana DGP CV Anand to Permit Political Activity

HYDERABAD — Former top Maoist leaders have approached Telangana Director General of Police CV Anand, urging the state police to allow them to engage in unrestricted political activity and enter mainstream politics.

In a representation submitted during a closed-door meeting with the police chief on August 10, the surrendered leaders also reiterated their demand for lifting the ban on the CPI (Maoist) party. Several senior leaders who laid down their arms in recent months are seeking to organise themselves under the party banner as full-time politicians.

Among those who met the DGP was former central committee member Devji, also known as Tippiri Tirupati. He, along with other senior former Maoists, attended the meeting to place their requests before the police leadership.

At present, surrendered Maoists in the state are confined to their private lives and remain distanced from political engagements.

Speaking on the representation, Devji stated that they want the police to provide them with an opportunity to participate in legally permissible activities without facing hurdles.

While top leaders have renounced arms in recent months, they maintain that they intend to continue their political involvement through lawful means if permitted by authorities.
