Suriya's Vishwanath And Sons Steady in Telugu Box Office but Drops in Tamil

Actor Suriya's latest film Vishwanath And Sons has maintained steady box office momentum in the Telugu market following its first Monday test, while experiencing a sharp decline in collections across Tamil Nadu.

The film, directed by Venky Atluri, was released on August 14 in both Tamil and Telugu. During its opening four-day weekend, theatrical performance diverged across regions, with the Telugu version demonstrating stronger theatrical holding power than the Tamil version.

In the Telugu states, the film crossed the Rs 7.2 crore Non-Refundable Advance (NRA) mark in the Nizam region by Monday. Trade projections indicate the film is poised to recover an additional Rs 2 crore in Recoverable Advance from Nizam by the end of the upcoming weekend. The Andhra distribution rights were valued at a Rs 10 crore ratio, with expectations that theatrical earnings there may break even over the full run. While distributors in the Ceeded territory are anticipated to incur a loss, surplus earnings from Nizam are set to compensate for the shortfall.

In contrast, the Tamil version experienced a noticeable drop on its first working day, trailing the Telugu version's Monday numbers by roughly 30 percent. Over its first four days of release, the film accumulated approximately Rs 30 crore gross in Tamil Nadu.

The theatrical business for the film in Tamil Nadu was valued at Rs 40 crore, requiring an estimated Rs 90 crore gross to reach break-even status. Trade assessments indicate a difficult road ahead for the Tamil version to meet the required recovery targets.
