Sudanese Student Rescued After Falling Into Hussainsagar Lake Near NTR Gardens

A 25-year-old Sudanese national was rescued by police personnel after he accidentally slipped and fell into Hussainsagar lake near NTR Gardens in Hyderabad during the early hours of Wednesday.

The student has been identified as Nazar Adam Badawy Mahadi, who is currently pursuing his education at Bhagwant University in Ajmer, Rajasthan.

According to officials, Saifabad police personnel were on routine patrol in the area around 4:20 am when they spotted Mahadi standing close to the safety grill along the lake's edge. While standing there, Mahadi suddenly lost his footing, slipped, and tumbled into the water.

The patrolling team responded immediately to the emergency. Officers deployed a rope and managed to pull the student out of the lake safely before any harm could occur.

During subsequent questioning by the police, Mahadi explained that he had arrived in Hyderabad a few days earlier to visit a friend of his brother, who was staying in the city to undergo medical treatment. Mahadi stated that he had left his mobile phone behind at the friend’s residence because its battery had drained, and had then stepped out alone to explore various locations around Hyderabad.

Following the rescue operation, police officials verified Mahadi's identification documents, including his passport and visa, and confirmed that both were valid. After concluding the standard verification procedures and formalities, the Saifabad police safely reunited Mahadi with his brother’s friend’s family in the city.
