Sudanese passenger tests negative for Ebola at Gandhi Hospital

A Sudanese passenger who was admitted to the Ebola isolation ward at Gandhi Hospital has tested negative for the virus and is scheduled to be discharged. The passenger was flagged upon his arrival at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Thursday after thermal scanners detected a mild fever.
Following his detection at the airport, the passenger was immediately transferred to the isolation ward at Gandhi Hospital as a precautionary measure for suspected Ebola. Gandhi Hospital Superintendent, Dr. Vani, confirmed that the patient was admitted to the facility on Thursday.
The patient's samples were sent to the Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) for testing. The diagnostic results from the CCMB arrived on Saturday morning, June 6, 2026, confirming that the patient had tested negative for the Ebola virus.
According to hospital doctors, the Sudanese passenger will be discharged from Gandhi Hospital at the earliest. The passenger’s visit to Hyderabad was originally planned for medical reasons, as he is scheduled to undergo a knee surgery at a private hospital in the city.
Although this patient has tested negative, hospital authorities remain watchful. Doctors at Gandhi Hospital added that they are currently awaiting the test results of two other suspected Ebola patients. Those reports are expected to arrive in a day or two.
