Special Officers Appointed for 169 Basti Dawakhanas in Hyderabad

On Tuesday, Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar inspected the Borabanda Vinayak Nagar Basti Dawakhana in Hyderabad to review medical services and infrastructure. Accompanied by local MLA V Naveen Yadav, District Collector Dr. Priyanka Ala, and GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, the Minister announced that special officers have been appointed for all 169 Basti Dawakhanas across Hyderabad to improve treatment facilities and boost public confidence.

During the visit, Prabhakar emphasized that the Telangana state government is prioritizing the medical sector to ensure a healthy state. He instructed the healthcare staff at the clinic to treat patients courteously and work towards increasing the daily outpatient capacity. Local doctors informed the Minister that the clinic currently manages between 100 and 150 outpatient cases every day.

To personally assess the medical services, the Minister underwent sugar, blood, and blood pressure tests at the clinic. He directed the medical officers to ensure that all necessary diagnostic tests are made available to patients at Basti Dawakhanas throughout the district.

The newly appointed special officers, drawn from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Hyderabad District Collectorate, will act as in-charges for the 169 clinics. They have been instructed to conduct inspections, evaluate existing treatment and infrastructure, and submit detailed reports. These reports will outline necessary measures to increase outpatient numbers and address deficiencies.

During his inspection of the Borabanda Vinayak Nagar facility, Prabhakar noted that one staff nurse position is currently vacant. He stated that a development format has been established for Basti Dawakhanas to address infrastructure gaps and prevent medicine shortages.

Prabhakar added that he would coordinate with Health Minister Damodara Rajanarsimha to keep Hyderabad's Basti Dawakhanas at the forefront of healthcare in the state. He also plans to bring issues requiring government-level intervention to the attention of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
